Valencia town hall is a grand old building located on a central square called Plaça de l’Ajuntament which is crowned by a beautiful fountain and marks the entrance to the old part of the city. It is the largest public square in and home not only to the town hall but also to a classic cinema called La Filmoteca and many restaurants and cafes. Fireworks displays take place on the square every afternoon during the popular festival known as Las Fallas. Rita Barbera Nolla is the current mayor of Valencia and has held this position since 1991.
