After the devastating 1957 floods in Valencia, the River Turia was diverted away from the city. The dry river bed has been converted into a green park full of ponds, paths, fountains, flowers, football pitches, cafes and quiet places to escape the bustle of the city. It is impossible to miss this park as it is a 9 kilometre long belt which cuts the city in half. Although walking through the gardens at night is not recommended, it is a perfectly safe place to be during the day and is full of nice, shady spots to rest in on those hot summer days.
